We are delighted to announce that the Levin Center’s Congressional Oversight Records Database (CORD) has expanded its collection by adding oversight reports and records from the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee. The release includes 98 oversight reports dating from the 105th to the 118th Congress (1998 – 2024) now available to the public free of charge.
Other Recent CORD Changes
We have made a few changes to how we communicate CORD entries and how we update committees:
Entry counts now exclusively refer to oversight reports (not oversight records), reflecting our ability to guarantee completeness and consistency based on a robust definition and validated search methodology applied specifically to oversight reports.
We have begun updating previously released committee data to include oversight reports through 2024, ensuring the collection remains current.
The CORD codebook has been updated and is available through the CORD database’s “About” tab or directly by clicking here.
This new committee release adds a total of 98 oversight reports to the existing database. With this addition, CORD now houses a unique collection of 1,361 congressional oversight reports for scholars and academics to use in their research. The below graph highlights how the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee’s reports distribute across the database’s main policy areas.
CORD is an effort by the Levin Center to make available for scholars, oversight practitioners, and the public oversight documents that are not easily accessible.
